In response to the urgent need of electronic device manufacturers to integrate AI into their products, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon X Plus 8-core processor at the IFA conference in Berlin, Germany on Wednesday. Industry analysts generally believe that this innovative AI PC processor will significantly strengthen Qualcomm’s challenge to Intel’s dominance in the PC processor market.
Designed specifically for PCs running Microsoft’s Windows operating system, the Snapdragon X Plus 8 processor promises to efficiently handle AI tasks while maintaining long battery life. Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon X series of PC chips last year, demonstrating its deep expertise in this field. This time, the American chip giant stated that the Snapdragon X Plus 8-core processor is tailored for PCs priced as low as $700, aiming to expand its semiconductor products to a wider range of devices. Qualcomm has traditionally designed chips for many top smartphone manufacturers, but the company has intensified its efforts in the PC sector this year, following Microsoft’s announcement of Surface Laptop and Surface Pro tablets powered by Qualcomm’s X-series chips. These devices are capable of running some AI tasks without an internet connection, which Microsoft refers to as Copilot+ PCs. Although Microsoft previously stated that it would later introduce Copilot+ PCs equipped with Intel and AMD chips, Qualcomm has already taken the lead. In response to Qualcomm’s AI PC chips, the competition in the PC market is expected to intensify further.
